2 Cut-Work
CUT-WORK (Point-coupee, French)A very early sort of lace, deriving its name from the mode of its manufacture, the fine cloth on which the pattern was worked with a needle being cut away, leaving the design perfect. Supposed to have been made in the 12th century by the nuns of Italy. Does not appear to have been known in England before the reign of Elizabeth. Cut-work, as well as laces of all descriptions, fell under the ban of the Puritans, and is seldom heard of after that period. -
3 Cut Double Cloths
A term denoting an important class of woollen figured cloths, which is popular at times. The distinctive feature is fine furrows cutting one weave from another, and the principle is used for worsted coatings and trouserings. The cut is obtained by means of two threads arranged so that one thread is raised for two or more picks, while the other is depressed, and vice versa. -

5 Cut Chinchilla
Chinchilla fabrics with fine coloured stripes in the warp, produced by hard-spun yarns. These hard yarns are placed at regular intervals. They are usually of cotton and are woven with the weft so as to bind it firmly into the face of the cloth. This prevents the formation of the floats necessary to produce the long nap formed into nubs during finishing (see Chinchilla) -
